A lune is a type of poem that is similar to the haiku, but is based on the English language instead of Japanese. The term comes from the French word for moon.

To write an original Robert Kelly lune, write a thirteen-syllable poem arranged 5 / 3 / 5 syllables. Poet Jack Collom, when he was teaching some schoolchildren the form, misremembered and taught the form as 3 / 5 / 3 words, not syllables. To write a lune you must write as concisely as possible. This can pose a real challenge, but it is a challenge that will benefit prose and verse writers alike.
Try your hand at writing a lune. Either variation is fine. Have fun and leave lunes in the comments below. Please leave one lune per comment.

Shouldn’t a haiku in English still follow a 5/7/5 moraic structure rather than syllables?
